We are excited to announce that on July 1st 2022, Mei Zhang joined the World Food Travel Association board. The World Food Travel Association is the world’s leading authority on food and beverage tourism, focusing on preserving and promoting culinary cultures through hospitality and tourism, and as such aligns in perfect harmony with WildChina’s mission and values.

To this role as a board member, Mei brings over two decades of experience in food travel, driven by her long-standing passion for sustainable food experiences in China. This includes on-the-ground work, curating unique experiences and connecting local chefs and food vendors with culinary curious travelers. But also, larger scale efforts toward making Chinese food culture more attainable to the world as a whole by sharing information and building understanding.

Mei’s contributions on this front include her book, Travels Through Dali: with a leg of ham, and WildChina’s podcast and virtual events featuring leading global food and drink experts like Fuchsia Dunlop, Jacques Pépin, Derek Sandhaus, Shunan Teng, Emma Gao and more.

From the vineyards of Ningxia to the ham curers of Yunnan to the tea fields of Fujian, Mei looks forward to leveraging this new role to promote sustainability in food and beverage tourism, both in China and beyond.
