Travel advisory regarding travel to mainland China, Hong Kong & Taiwan

International Travel to Mainland China

From December 1st, 2023: For the next year, ordinary passport holders from France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Malaysia can enter China visa-free for up to 15 days.

From November 1st, 2023: Health declarations are no longer required for entry or exit

From August 30th, 2023: Covid tests no longer required for entry or exit

From March 15th, 2023: China is officially issuing all types of visas again

Are mainland China's borders open to international travelers?

China’s borders fully open to international leisure (tourist visa) travelers again! International arrivals and departures to/from China have returned to pre-pandemic standards. This means no health declaration and no covid test requirements, just a visa for entry as usual!

As of November, 2023:

Chinese embassies are issuing all types of visas again (including tourist visas)
Visas issued before March 28, 2020 that are still valid (the visa expiration date has not passed) will again be admitted for entry into China (again, including tourist visas)
Visa-free transit has resumed
Tibet travel permits will resume
Port visas have resumed at: Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Dalian, Fuzhou, Guangzhou, Guilin, Haikou, Hangzhou, Heihe, Jinan, Kunming, Machuria, Nanjing, Qingdao, Sanya, Shanghai, Shenyang, Shenzhen, Suifenhe, Tianjin, Wuhan, Xiamen, Xi’an, Weihai, Yantai, and Zhuhai. *Please note port visas are not available to passport holders from the USA and France
Hainan visa-free entry has resumed
Visa-free entry for cruise ships in Shanghai has resumed
Visa-free travel for Hong Kong travel groups traveling between Hong Kong, Macau and Guangdong has resumed
Visa-free entry for ASEAN tour groups to Guilin, Guangxi has resumed

Pre-entry covid tests, proof of vaccination and health declaration form are no longer required.

We’d like to add that it’s always best to check with your local Chinese consulate/embassy and airlines(s) for the latest travel requirements.

What do I need to enter China from abroad?

Unless you are entering under a visa-free scheme, you will need a valid visa to enter China.

*Some requirements are country-specific, so we recommend checking with your local Chinese consulate or embassy to confirm what is required based on your location.

International Travel to Taiwan

Taiwan is fully open for travel!

Pre-departure testing: Not required.

Pre-departure vaccination requirement: Not required.

Arrival testing: Not required.

Quarantine: As of October 13th, 2022, there is no mandatory quarantine or restriction on travel for international arrivals into Taiwan.

International Travel to Hong Kong

No quarantine for international arrivals to Hong Kong!

Pre-departure testing: Not required.

Pre-departure vaccination requirement: Not required.

Arrival testing: Not required (though temperature spot-checks are still being carried out).

Quarantine: As of December 14th, 2022, there is no mandatory quarantine or restriction on travel for international arrivals into Hong Kong.

Domestic Travel in Mainland China

Travelers already in China are able to travel domestically with little to no restrictions.

Domestic travel in China has returned to normal. As of November 2023, there are no covid checks or requirements for any form of domestic travel in China.

Additional training
Every staff member at WildChina has received additional training on identifying risk factors and symptoms linked to COVID-19.
Face masks and hand sanitizer
All of our staff have face masks on-hand at all times for places that require them. Additionally, ff you would feel more comfortable having your guide wear a face mask for the entirety of your journey, please just let us know, and we will be happy to arrange accordingly.

Beyond the government requirements, we also personally audit all boutique hotels that we work with to ensure our standards are met and that we, and you, know exactly what to expect.

Face masks
While face masks are no longer required anywhere in China, you may still see local people wearing them out and about. This is a long-standing part of Chinese society which pre-dates COVID; wearing a face mask to protect yourself and others while in public is a common practice.
If you feel unwell, let us know
If you feel unwell at any point during your journey, please let us know. We’ll quickly escort you to a local hospital so that you can receive the appropriate care and treatment.
Flexibility and patience
If you need to change your itinerary during your trip, for health reasons or otherwise, your guide and our travel designers will work with you in real time to make the necessary adjustments.
