Mei Zhang

Founder and Chairlady

Mei Zhang is the founder and CEO of WildChina. Under her leadership, WildChina flourished from a small Hutong operation into an award-winning business. Mei’s own expertise has led her to win a number of personal awards, including Travel and Leisure’s A-List of Top Travel Advisors, Condé Nast Traveler’s Top Travel Specialist, and Wendy Perrin’s #WOW List of Travel Experts. Mei is an Aspen Institute China Fellow and currently serves as a member of Harvard Business School’s Alumni Board.

Marketing Specialist/Manager

WildChina is looking to hire a passionate and detail-oriented native English speaker to join our marketing team. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven individual to play a key role in an award-winning experiential travel company. The daily activities will be diverse and ever-changing, requiring the skills of a happy multi-tasker with super-human powers for content creation and working with others. This is an exciting time to join WildChina as we continue to evolve as an organization and transform the way we work following COVID-19.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing innovative and thoughtful marketing strategies for an international and expat audience·
  • Developing cohesive and creative storytelling strategies
  • Creating compelling and engaging articles and product marketing copy
  • Transforming logistical information into timely and informative client-facing content
  • Mentoring internal and freelance writing staff on the WildChina style and tone of voice
  • Managing WildChina’s English-language social media accounts
  • Creating copy for direct mail marketing campaigns that WildChina’s audiences love to read
  • Optimizing copy using knowledge of SEO

Required skills and qualifications:

  • You’re a self-confessed Sinophile with a passion for travel
  • You share our mission to change the travel industry in China for the better and you aspire to big things. You’re looking to make your mark alongside top quality team members
  • You have an entrepreneurial mind-set. You strive for constant improvement and are never afraid to experiment and try new things
  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, preferably business, marketing or communications
  • You love the written word and are a natural story-teller
  • You have a demonstrated ability to implement a successful marketing strategy
  • You have attention to detail to such a level that you are known as ‘eagle eyed’
  • You’re highly organized, ‘eagle-eyed’ when it comes to detail, and enjoy a flexible way of working

Your knowledge and experience should include:

  • Proficiency with Adobe Suite, especially InDesign and Illustrator is a plus
  • Experience as a content writer
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Video and photography skills are a plus
  • Mandarin-language skills are a plus

WildChina is looking for a passionate, highly motivated, and creative native English speaker to join the marketing team in our Beijing headquarters as our Communications & Content Specialist. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven individual to play a key role in an award-winning, experiential travel company.

This individual will be responsible for communicating WildChina’s key messages across our website, social media, newsletters, and internal platforms through written and visual content. She/he will tell WildChina’s story in an engaging, compelling way; turning interested fans into clients and helping expand the reach and range of our audiences. While the focus will be communications and ensuring brand consistency, daily activities will be diverse and ever-changing, requiring the skills of a happy multi-tasker.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating the creation and publishing of engaging content, including blog articles, lead magnets, newsletter content, and website copy
  • Devising and implementing creative marketing campaigns for general branding exercises as well as specific outreach campaigns
  • Managing a rich content calendar that reflects WildChina’s principles and attracts our target travelers
  • Researching and analyzing WildChina’s market position and providing strategic input based on findings and goals
  • Converting site traffic through intriguing calls-to-action, landing pages, and lead-generation content
  • Developing, implementing, and managing WildChina’s social media strategy, including implementing a rich content calendar with plans for specific, timely marketing campaigns and consistent engagement with key audiences
  • Measuring and recording the success of each social media and communications campaign
  • Managing all WildChina newsletters, as well as media contacts, press releases, and other communications with key industry stakeholders
  • Managing WildChina’s press page, as well as the outreach strategy for key media partners
  • Staying up to date with the latest social media best practices and technologies, as well as travel trends relevant to WildChina
  • Working with writers and designers to ensure content is informative and appealing

You will have:

  • A passion for adventure, culture, and storytelling
  • An eye for compelling visual and written content
  • A bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or similar
  • Fluent written and oral English skills
  • 1-3 years relevant work experience
  • Attention to detail to such a level that you are known as ‘eagle-eyed’
  • Ability to proactively lead a project
  • Enjoy a highly organized, yet flexible way of working
  • A happy, friendly, and genuine personality that is a pleasure to be around

Your knowledge and experience should include:

  • Experience writing and/or editing
  • Professional experience managing social media and communications
  • Experience managing press relationships and outreach preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to lead a project using own initiative as well as working as part of a team
  • Video and photography skills are a plus

Marketing Intern

The WildChina Marketing Intern will be an integral part of the WildChina Marketing. S/he will work closely with the Marketing staff to create content for WildChina’s digital marketing campaigns and will represent the Marketing team on key cross- team initiatives. We are looking for a native English speaker to assist the Marketing team for at least a 2-month time period. Position starts immediately and we will consider remote working options.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing and creating content for the WildChina blog
  • Collaborating with the Sales team to create new site descriptions for WildChina clients
  • Managing sections of the WildChina website
  • Assisting with planning and execution of Marketing campaigns
  • Assisting with longer-term Marketing initiatives

Requirements:

  • Fluent English speaker
  • Available for at least 2 months
  • Ability to work under deadlines and submit work in a timely manner
  • Knowledge of Mandarin Chinese (desirable)
  • Background in Marketing and/or working in a start-up environment
  • Self-starter, ability to think creatively about problem-solving
  • Interest in China and the tourism industry
