Tour Reviews

We had an amazing trip. Isabel was helpful and responsive setting it up and the guides Jerry and Maggie were excellent. (Maggie even managed to sort out a problem with a lost piece of luggage.) I would definitely recommend WildChina to others. Whilst booking I thought WildChina to be expensive but when in China the guides and general organization were so good that I was very pleased we chose them.

Our tour guide, Raymond was phenomenal – he was great and our group absolutely loved him. He was kind, informative, and had a great personality – we enjoyed spending the day with him. He helped our group navigate the Great Wall while saving us from some common tourist traps. Many of us are well traveled and he was the best guide we have encountered.

My son and I traveled to Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong and we LOVED the services of WildChina. Before our trip, Maynard and Kendra had impeccable communications and suggestions in planning our itinerary, and in giving us tips before we left. In Beijing, Shirley was amazing. She was the perfect guide and made changes in the days to fit any and all requests we had. In Shanghai, Patrick was exceptional. We drove out of the city, one day, to Tongli, and the information he provided throughout the trip was fascinating! We also took a sidecar ride through Shanghai, and this was one our favorite experiences. Finally, Anna was our guide in Hong Kong. She is energetic, knowledgable, and fun! All our guides made every effort to make our trip exactly what we wanted, and provided excellent restaurant options. I would use WildChina for any of my trips.

Just returned from our second WildChina adventure – to Thailand and Myanmar, and their logistics support is jaw-dropping. Flawless airport greetings, transfers, and engaging guides at every stop. All their guides are personally interviewed by the home office and they are superb. The hotel choices are thoughtful, and in the planning phase they are 24 hours or less responsive. And in general cheaper and a better value than the big North American bespoke companies. Also travelled with them through China, and this second trip was at least as good as the first.

WildChina may be the best travel company we’ve experienced, anywhere.

WildChina was exceedingly helpful. Their advance work on our trip was helpful in assisting us in thinking through exactly what we wanted to prioritize seeing. Shirley helped group the places in a manner that equalized our activities and gave us additional time to add more items of interest. She was articulate with excellent English. She and the driver were able to get us close to each place we were headed so that we did not waste time. Shirley was very responsive to our questions about the places we were seeing, the general culture, political history, and life in her native Beijing today. She told us many interesting facts and stories about the classic sights we visited together and was responsive to our pace and interests. She found us places to eat lunch together and helped us navigate the menus while being attentive to our dietary restrictions. Her caring about us made all the difference.

I just want to thank you and Jerry for everything you did. Not only was the tour fantastic but you went above and beyond to help us. I will definitely recommend you to any family and friends traveling to the area in the future. You are all amazing and I personally will definitely be using your services upon any return trip to China! I can’t tell you again how much we appreciate you and Jerry.

The trip was beyond our expectations.I often felt you were the wings on our shoulders while we were experiencing so much. In other words you were an extra set of ears and eyes being watchful from afar. You were a pleasure to work with while organizing our itinerary. I found the Four Seasons Tented Camp, Bagaan Lodge Hotel and Inle Princess particularly wonderful and comfortable. A great surprise was the 137 Pillar House in Chiang Mai. It is beautiful and luxurious as wellI would categorize the Yangon Sule Shangri-La Hotel as a business hotel. It was perfectly fine but nothing special. I did notice that we drove past the Pan Pacific Hotel which looks like a new establishment. I would recommend that you check it out.We also drove past a Kempinski hotel under construction.Thank you again for making our trip an extra special experience.

I was going to be spending three weeks in South East Asia and thought that since I was “in the neighborhood” I would pop up to Beijing to see the Great Wall and Forbidden City… WildChina planned everything beautifully. Our guide Abraham was a delight, extremely knowledgeable but also friendly and fun. He went well above and beyond in his service. He knew I was on a mission to bring back for my son some Udon noodles and rice noodles and took it upon himself to find them in his spare time in the evening!

Angela Meng and Wild China arranged a very lively and wonderfully informative trip though Shanxi to give us an incredible tour of China’s history and traditional Chinese architecture–they arranged a local expert in Pingyao to fill us in in the details of how the local government offices worked in traditional China and we had a great guide in Mr An Yongyi who gave us great historical background on all the sites. The places we stayed were well selected ; they were stunning and very charming and unusual!. The JIng residence in Pingyao and Opposite House in Beijing were incredible. Our days in Beijing were very well planned. We had a great visit to the art district in Chaoyang, even visiting the private gallery of one of the artists of the district. Mr Hu was wonderfully open and lively. Wild China is well organized, super well informed and they have a great instinct for getting it right for you– they are phenomenal! We are planning to ask for Wild China to plan a trip next year to three national parks in China.

The trip to Beijing, Xi’an and Shanghai was absolutely wonderful. The Great Wall, Terra Cotta Warriors and the Lama Temple were definitely the highlights of our visit.

We could not have asked for a better experience from Wild China. You put together a wonderful itinerary and organized our logistics on only two and a half weeks notice. With the drastic time zone difference between Beijing and Dallas, it was especially helpful to have Jenny respond to my emails while she was traveling in the United States. I really appreciate your checking in on us during our trip by both telephone and email. Our guides Michael and Yale were extremely knowledgeable about their cities and sites as well as professional and personable. Our drivers always got us to all our destinations in a timely and safe manner (which given the traffic in Beijing was quite a feat). It was great the way the minivan was always waiting for us with doors open and snacks ready when we needed to be on the move. We were spoiled by our “rock star treatment”.

Ah, Wild China…

We traveled for 18 days with knowledgeable and personable guides, and were able to see not only the “must sees” of China and Tibet but (more importantly for us) were able to interact with the Chinese people both in the cities and in the country. If you are one of those folks looking for a “cookie cutter” tour of China from the seat of a bus I suggest you look elsewhere. For those looking for a true representation of what China is/will be you can stop looking now. Wild China is IT.

Thank you to Veronique for putting this all together (and getting us vegetarian options for dinner!), to Angela for working out the travel glitches (Chinese domestic air travel can be challenging at times), to ALL our guides for being absolutely wonderful, and to the wonderful folks we met along the way who took the time to talk with us and share parts of their lives.

If we manage to get back to China we will have Wild China arrange everything – but I bet you already surmised that.

Just no seaweed for dinner next time. 🙂

I requested a 2 day tour from Taiyuan to Pingyao from WildChina. They not only organized it but provided Brenda (the BEST english speaking guide) and and awesome driver who took the best of care of me. They were attentive to my interests (awesome at bargaining while shopping) – recommended excellent food options and were very knowledgeable about the area as well. The tour was delightful in every way. Read more on TripAdvisor.

My husband and I just got back from an amazing trip to China planned by WildChina. Everything went seamlessly. From start to finish, the guides and drivers were awesome. They took us to the best sites, restaurants and hotels. We learned a lot about history as well as present day China. We liked the trip so much that we hope to take another trip to China in the not too distant future and explore other areas. Read on TripAdvisor

Just finished our 4th journey with WildChina visiting Jianshui and interesting ethnic minority villages on the way from Kunming. Although it was our shortest China trip it was organized and executed in the same professional way as our other journeys to Tibet, Northern Yunnan, and the Silk Road. Thank you again, Jenny Zhao, for putting all these truly memorable tours together! We felt they were unique and go beyond the normal tourist path. Read More on TripAdvisor.

Thank you so much for doing such a fabulous job making all the arrangements. Your guides were fabulous. Sonam was especially knowledgeable, interesting and patient. And you really listened to the type of trip we were interested in and structured the trip accordingly. We ended up all enjoying the train ride. It was more comfortable than expected and we all appreciated the down time together as a family. And the half day you arranged outside of Xining was a great interlude.

Thank you for all your work and patience as we were going back and forth about the trip plans.

Thank you again, Jenny Zhao, for putting all these truly memorable tours together! We felt they were unique, go beyond the normal tourist path. We could learn about the local culture and the daily life of the diverse Chinese minorities, stay at unique historic places, enjoy the local cuisine (Yunnan food is our favorite now. Yak meat, for instance, is better than expected, Yak butter tea not quite as good :), feel like Marco Polo on a camel, and be stunned by amazing landscapes.

On all the tours we had exceptional guides. They were very passionate, spoke English fluently and excited to pass on their extensive knowledge. If difficulties arose, like the car getting stuck in mud or a snowstorm, it was handled well. We also felt that WildChina was following our progress throughout all the trips.

We highly recommend WildChina!

WildChina provides ‘the’ absolute ideal solution for a first visit to vast, culturally-diverse, historically-complex and experience-full China. From the relevance and customization of the planning phase and in-trip monitoring by the friendly Beijing office, to the depth, quality and passion of guides we had at each step of our trip, we spent an intense (by design) and unforgettable two-week family holidays (parents + three teenagers). A great high-end way to make the most of the Middle Kingdom. Read the Review on TripAdvisor.

For our first trip to China we decided to use a tour operator and Wild China was superb. All the guides and drivers were lots of fun and very knowledgeable. We did a private trip with our 2 boys ages 16 and 22. They loved every part of the trip from historic Beijing to the pandas in Chengdu to sophisticated Shanghai. Wild China put together a perfect trip for our family.

My husband and I just enjoyed a two-week trip (business and pleasure) guided by Wild China. Putting ourselves in the hands of Wild China (Jenny Zhao in particular) was definitely the right decision. What a beautiful country! And we could never have appreciated it in such a comfortable and relaxed fashion like we did without the help of Wild China. Their attention to detail during the pre-planning put my mind at ease and allowed us to get very specific about what we wanted to do with the time we had. Visit TripAdvisor to read more.

It was great having drivers pick us up and take us around everywhere. We loved the food and the mix of activities was just perfect for our family. I will certainly recommend you for clients in the future. Visit TripAdvisor to read more.

My husband and I just enjoyed a two-week trip (business and pleasure) guided by Wild China. I am a seasoned international traveler but had never been to China before. I was wary of how to navigate the country’s language, culture, customs and strict travel requirements for foreigners.

Their knowledge of the different parts of China we wanted to go (Beijing, Guangxi Province, Shanghai) helped us create a very customized and unique experience suited to our individual tastes. Particularly picking the right hotels for our taste and budget, and suggesting local, authentic experiences to bring the culture to life in each place. For example, Wild China arranged for me to have a private Tai Chi lesson one day and a cooking lesson on another day — just a few examples of the ways they help make your trip memorable (and things I probably would have had a hard time arranging on my own).

One of the best parts was the guides (Raymond in Beijing, Gao in Guangxi Province and Stacey in Shanghai) and drivers on the ground Wild China arranges for you. They meet you at the arrival gate of your airport and take you door-to-door from then on. They navigate every part of the logistical experience for you (or as much/little as you want). We also truly enjoyed spending time with all of our guides and drivers. They were friendly, knowledgeable, flexible — and no matter what happened or what request we had, they all said the same thing “No worries!” They took care of anything and everything that popped up. This allowed us to relax and truly enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Since I am typically the family’s “travel agent/guide” on all our trips, this was something I appreciated so much.

Be aware you need to have enough cash to tip your drivers and guides. Wild China explains this to you in advance, so factor this in to how much money you need to exchange (although you can tip in US dollars if needed, too).

I highly recommend Wild China. We intend to use them on our return trip to this remarkable country.

I want to thank you for the video as well as an excellent experience with Abraham in your fascinating city. We could not have asked for a better guide, nicer driver or a better itinerary. We appreciate all the time involved on our behalf.

We hope to return to China in a few years and hopefully will work with your company once again.

Please give our best to Abraham and tell him how much we appreciated all he did for us.

From my first contacts with their offices in Berkeley, CA, and then Beijing, the WildChina agents were responsive and helpful. They arranged an itinerary that was well-paced and took into account our preferences – e.g. we took the bullet train to Xi’an, flight back; and they booked an excellent hotel. All transfers were seamless. In four days, we had a range of experiences, from biking on the city wall, to, of course, seeing the Terracotta Warriors, to visiting a farmers’ home to make dumplings. Abraham Hu was excellent, and we had great full days and excellent restaurant recommendations from him. We learned much from him and appreciated the depth of his background. We especially liked going to the art districts — something not on the usual tourist agenda. The Chonghua Palace special tour was absolutely wonderful – thank you for knowing about that. Maggie Wu was an excellent guide, and we very much appreciated her expertise in working us through the crowds. We especially loved her guiding us to lunch at an absolutely delicious “farmhouse” restaurant near the Terracotta Warriors site (we had many incredible meals during our trip, but this “simple” lunch stands out as one of the best!)

H. M.1 August 2017

My husband and I planned to be in Beijing in early July and had 4 weekdays available for an excursion to Xi’an. To make arrangements, I decided to try WildChina, based on information and reviews (on sites such as Tripadvisor) that I found on the internet.

In four days, we had a range of experiences, from biking on the city wall, to, of course, seeing the Terra Cotta Warriors, to visiting a farmers’ home to make dumplings. And while there were shopping opportunities, there was none of the pressure that I experienced on a previous trip in China years ago.

The heat was fierce the week we were in Xi’an, something I dreaded; however, all transportation, restaurants, hotel, even the farmers’ home! was air conditioned, so that the heat did not overwhelm our enjoyment of the trip.

Our guide was delightful – friendly, intelligent, prompt, professional (with excellent English), she effortlessly kept us on schedule without feeling rushed. Our driver was also terrific, a man of few words with a great disposition and an uncanny ability to maneuver in chaotic traffic. His vehicle, a van, was spotlessly clean, cool, and perfectly comfortable, with bottled water always available from a cooler.

It was our first time in Xi’an and we did not deviate from our itinerary, which covered all Xi’an highlights and was, as I’ve said, full yet well-paced. (Btw the bike ride on the city wall was an experience I would like to repeat in cooler weather..)

In all, we had a great time and hope to travel with WildChina again in future.

We were very, very happy with Jerry from Wild China. Very knowledgable and helpful and a genuinely lovely guy. He was tuned in to what we wanted, was flexible and took us to a couple surprise places we hadn’t thought of as well as all the things we were keen to see. This was particularly impressive given that our flight in was delayed and we needed to catch up on some sleep the morning of our first day. We would happily recommend Jerry to anyone. WildChina is a high quality and trustworthy travel company. Jenny is honest, reliable, listens well and as this as our second trip with her, she hasn’t steered us wrong yet! This was also our second trip with Sonam, one of our guides. He masterfully uses his trekking skills, local knowledge, and pays attention to detail and his clients to ensure a memorable experience, while managing the schedule and pace of activities to fit the limitation of his clients. Our purpose for travel is to have an adventure, and experience the people, culture and sights of Asia. WildChina does an outstanding job of immersing us in those elements safely and comfortably in parts of China that are still unspoiled and reflect the country’s great diversity of people and geography.
